When to Climb

The Best Time to Climb Kilimanjaro

Kilimanjaro can be climbed throughout the year, though it is widely recommended during the dry season March to December when the sky is clear and the visibility is high. But bare in mind that the higher you get the colder it is.

March to December
Dry Season: Considered to be the best season and the busiest time, you will encounter a lot of other trekkers. All large number of small animals can be seen around water sources

January to Mid March
Warm Season: Clear skies mornings and evenings but a brief rain can fall at any time

June to October
Cool Season. It can be very cold at night or as they call it “Kilimanjaro’s winter.”
Temperatures can plum to minus in the night.

April, May and November
Wet Season: This is the least recommended period due to heavy clouds that can lead to low visibility and dangerous conditions for climbers’ safety. It is only recommended for climbers with experience in cloudy and rainy conditions at high altitude.
